Despite competition from Common, Q-Tip and Mos Def, the Grammy award for Best Rap Album during the 2010 Grammy Awards was awarded to Eminem for his latest offering Relapse. Although it was extremely highly-anticipated and even the best-selling Hip Hop album of 2009, many felt that the release was a relative disappointment in terms of content and at least compared with past Eminem albums, fairly unremarkable….

Return of Slim Shady – Eminem’s Shadey Talez

Hip Hop superstar Eminem will be allegedly be starring in and possibly even producing a 3D Hip Hop Horror anthology named The Shadey Talez. The project will is reportedly due to be released next year, accompanied by a four-part comic book series.

Reports originally surfaced about the Horror Anthology last week and have yet to be officially confirmed by Eminem’s publicist, who originally merely stated ‘there’s been talks.’ Still thre has been much discussion of the project, which will reportedly ‘pay homage’ to cult Horror classics but retain an urban edge.

With his horror-core influenced alter-ego Slim Shady having made fewer appearances of late, it will be interesting to see the Detroit rapper embark on a darker project once again, taking a detour from the commercialism that has plagued his last few ventures. The project has been described as ‘a cross between The Twilight Zone and Creep Show.’

Jay-Z reacts to MTV’s Hottest MCs 2009 List

Shortly after earning the top spot on MTV’s ‘Hottest MCs In The Game’ list, New York Hip Hop giant Sean ‘Jay-Z’ Carter shared his thoughts on the list, both thanking MTV but also questioning their choice.

Artists like Kanye West, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne and relative newcomer Drake were also featured but failed to top Jigga. Whilst appreciative for the recognition, in a recent statement Jay also openly questioned why Detroit rapper Eminem had been overlooked from the list.

The MTV 2009 ‘Hottest MCs’ List panned out as follows:

1. Jay-Z
2. Lil Wayne
3. Drake
4. Kanye West
5. Rick Ross
6. Gucci Mane
7. Young Jeezy
8. Fabolous
9. 50 Cent
10. Raekwon

In his statement Jay wrote: ‘MTV, Thanks for this nod of appreciation. Although I don’t strive to be ‘hot’ for any particular year, I thank you for the acknowledgment. My whole goal is to be recognized as the best ever. I created the term ‘best rapper alive’ as a sign of respect to my fallen comrades (Biggie and Tupac). I believe I’ve allowed a significant grace period, and I believe I would not be respecting myself if being the absolute best was not my goal, and that’s why I continue to push myself until exhaustion … salute.’

He then continued by joking, ‘Sidebar: Kanye moment if I may … Eminem?!?! I think you do the credibility of this list a disservice if you don’t thoroughly explain his omission. As of this second he has the highest selling rap album of the year and a scene stealing verse on the best ‘posse’ cut of the year . (*Hands mic back to Taylor Swift … and nobody was harmed, I apologize in advance.)’

Jay has done his best to make light of the Kanye VMAs situation since the surprise outburst and in typical Jigga fashion attempted to maintain a devil’s advocate approach, displaying a level of maturity that many of his peers are lacking.

MTV then responded to Jay’s comments, explaining that unlike than the other artists who made the list, Eminem has spent the entire season working on his forthcoming Relapse 2 project rather than ‘generat[ing] week-to-week heat with mixtapes, guest appearances, performances and Web activity.’ They also maintained that the list was finalised prior to the release of Drake’s noteworthy Forever that featured Em, Kanye and Lil Wayne.

In related news, according to Soundscan Jay-Z’s latest offering Blueprint 3 finished last week only a couple of thousand units shy of platinum and should certainly be on track for platinum status this week.

Eminem’s Relapse 2 Latest

Last night hip hop heavyweight Eminem revealed in an interview on Shade 45 that his ‘Relapse 2’ album will be more “emotionally driven” than his last offering.

This revelation comes shortly after he explained to DJ Whoo Kid on air last week that producer Just Blaze had contributed four or five tracks to the album.

Em did not confirm when the album would be released, although he did explain that he had finished recording the project.

Em explained, “It’s probably gonna be a lot different than people expect as far as the contrast from the last record.” He then continued, “The overall basis of the record is more emotionally driven.”

“The last record I was concentrating more on just spitting,” he maintained, before explaining that he wanted to make some music with more substance on this project.

“With this record I feel like there’s some of that, but at the same time I kind of went back to making songs with feels to ‘em as opposed to just rap records.”

As of yet there is no official release date for ‘Relapse 2.’

Eminem’s Relapse 2 Release Details

After the late release of ‘Relapse’ earlier this year, Eminem fans may be able to look forward to a second studio offering from the rap superstar in 2009. A speculated release date for ‘Relapse 2’ has been announced for November 16th in the UK and the 17th in the US.

Em recently spoke about the release, whilst explaining about the delay of ‘Relapse,’ which was originally due to drop in 2008.

“A lot of people were expecting ‘Relapse’ to drop last year; I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out ‘Relapse 2’ will let everyone get all of the best stuff.”

Although it seems likely that Shady/Aftermath will be keen to monopolise on the rapper’s media prominence, the date is yet to be finalised.

UPDATE: Eminem’s manager has stated that reports regarding the speculated release date are untrue. Amazon UK, the cause of all of the speculation, continue to maintain that the album is due to be released on November 16th. Is there any truth in the statement? Is Rosenberg just trying to cover his back after the numerous delays from Shady/Aftermath with past projects? That remains to be seen.
