Currently incarcerated after being found guilty of second degree murder last August, rapper C-Murder reached out to my colleagues over at allhiphop.com to give an insight into prison life. In his letter, he explained that he was currently working on his appeal and stressed the importance of education and making the right decisions in life.

His letter to AHH, reads:

What’s up AllHipHop?

This ya boy C-Murder reaching out to yall and my many loyal fans that gives a damn. I’m in the process of my appeals right now, so keep me in your prayers.

And I want to send my thanks to those of you the support and believe in me and my innocence. I’m holding up pretty good here at Angola.

I work out regularly and participate in all sports leagues. Kitchen duty is my job and 5:30 AM is wake up time.

Of course I hate it, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Life is short and the time you waste in jail can never be replaced.

That’s why I’m asking you guys to take heed to my situation and better yourselves to live a positive and productive life.

Education and discipline is most important.

If you feel alone in making important decisions don’t. Parents, priests, counselors or relatives are always available.

Dancehall deejay Wasp has re-recorded his single ‘Cry Di Dem’ as a tribute to the Haiti Earthquake victims. The Double EME nominated artist was inspired to rework the track after seeing the scenes of Haiti following the disaster that occurred last week (Jan 12. 2010).

Wasp released a statement with his thoughts on the disaster, explaining, “when I watched the news and saw the gruesome scenes, I was really touched and decided I had to do my part to help, the song will be used throughout various campaigns aimed at soliciting aid for the people of Haiti.”

The track is a fitting anthem for the many affected by the 7.0 earthquake and hopefully will only continue to raise awareness for their plight.

Eve in her Ruff Ryders days

Eve has ended speculation that she is going to quit her recording career by resparking discussions of her forthcoming release. The rapper-turned-actress, who has yet to release an album since her 2002 offering Eve-Olution, stated via her Twitter page that she was ‘not letting this year pass wit out an ALBUM!’ She also described herself as a ‘free agent’ following her departure from Interscope. Ruff Ryders artist Drag-On had also confirmed recently that his former labelmate was currently working on the project, which Eve suggests will now be called Lip Lock and will contain ‘Tamborine’ and ‘Give It To You’ as bonus tracks.

Ruff Ryders CEO Waah Dean discussed Eve’s label situation in a recent interview, stating, ‘Eve is pretty much in the process of being released from the Interscope deal right now.’ He then contined, ‘We’re in negotiations of helping her get in control of her situation, we’re supporting her’. Dean then described Interscope as a ‘great label’ and highlighted their part alongside Universal and Def Jam in the success of his own Ruff Ryders venture. He then explained that Interscope ‘didn’t do what they was supposed to do on some level but she’s getting released and we’re gonna be here to support her in whatever direction she want to go.’

The exact release date for Lip Lock, which was originally due to be released in 2007 as Here I Am, remains unconfirmed at this point. The project is expected to drop later in 2010.

R.I.P Jimmy O

It has now been confirmed that Haitian rapper Jean ‘Jimmy O’ Jimmy Alexandre has died in the Haitian Earthquake. The body of the 35 year old Kreyol rapper, who was in the Haitian capital to work on a mixtape, was discovered yesterday and identified by his passport. Sadly, like many others that perished during the disaster, he was crushed by rubble that was dislodged during the 7.0 earthquake.

Jimmy O was well-respected in the local rap scene, helping to mentor young artists and contributing to the Yele Haiti Foundation. On Tuesday, shortly after the massive quake hit his homeland, rapper and humanitarian Wyclef Jean announced on CNN that he was in the process of trying to search for his friend and colleague, stating “I urge everyone who’s listening right now that knows how great this kid is in Haiti — I need y’all to verify this information. It would be a terrible loss for us.”

Rest in Peace Jimmy O

So far, Jean’s Yele Haiti Earthquake appeal has raised a total of $2 million and the money will be reportedly be allocated to emergency relief, food and other much-needed help for the people of Port-au-Prince that were affected by the earthquake.

Wyclef Jean

Wyclef Jean has given a statement after a major earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the richter scale, hit his homeland Haiti. 3 Million people are reported to have been affected by the disaster and casualities are expected to be high. Official representatives for the Haitian consul in New York fear that it could be several days before anybody truly can gauge the scale of the devastation.

Humanitarian and Hip Hop musician Wyclef stated yesterday:

“Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.

I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.

President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”

Wyclef’s charity Yele Haiti are currently asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (the amount will be charged to your mobile phone bill), or for those outside the US please visit Yele.org and click on DONATE.
